Aaron Rodgers' future with the Green Bay Packers is again uncertain, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday morning:
"This will be the third straight offseason in which Aaron Rodgers' future is the subject of much speculation. But make no mistake, both sides are full aware that a trade is a very real scenario this offseason for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are expected to move on from certain players, which Aaron Rodgers probably will not like. The issue here will be the $110 million left on his contract and which team could afford it. But there is a real possibility that at some point this offseason, Aaron Rodgers is going to be traded."
After winning back-to-back NFL MVP Awards, Rodgers regressed in 2022, throwing 26 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, his highest mark in terms of picks since his first full season as a starter in 2008.
Rodgers are the Packers clearly missed the presence of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in March. Rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Dobbs flashed the potential to be at the forefront of the next great Packers offense, but Rodgers ultimately threw for 3,695 yards, his lowest mark in a non-injury season in his illustrious career.
The Packers had a chance to end a frustrating season on a high note by defeating the Detroit Lions in Week 18, which would have punched their ticket to the postseason. Instead, they lost 20-16 at home to an upstart Lions team that had already been eliminated from postseason contention.
In an appearance with Pat McAfee earlier this week, Rodgers openly discussed his future, both in terms of deciding whether he wants to continue playing and if he does, if that will be in Green Bay:
The Packers will have to decide this offseason whether they will exercise the fifth-year option of former first-round pick Jordan Love. It's possible that they do just that, and finally hand him the keys to the offense ahead of his fourth NFL season. It would be strikingly similar circumstances to when Rodgers succeeded Brett Favre as the starting quarterback in Green Bay in 2008.
