Shorr-Parks: Jalen Hurts is kind of the perfect quarterback

The Eagles improved to 12-1 on Sunday with yet another dominant victory. The Birds scored on their first three drives en route to a 48-22 win over the Giants at MetLife Stadium.

It was the third straight game in which the Eagles scored at least 35 points. They have a point differential of 123 to 65 in those three contests.

Jalen Hurts added to his MVP campaign with a pair of touchdown passes and another on the ground in the victory.

James Seltzer and Eliot Shorr-Parks of the Audacy Original Podcast “Go Birds” talked about the Eagles’ big win and just how good Hurts has been this season.

“(Sunday) was just professional quarterbacking by Jalen,” Shorr-Parks said (7:19 in player above). “I remember watching Tom Brady against the Eagles in training camp twice. … Just the way he would just sit back there and just pick them apart. Jalen was like that (Sunday) but also a dynamic runner. There was a point during the game (Sunday) when I was thinking ‘he’s kind of the perfect quarterback.’”

While Hurts has his doubters, Sunday’s blowout win over the Giants showed off many of his strengths. He threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns on 21 of 31 passing while also running for 77 yards and a score on seven carries.

Hurts spread the ball around as well with nine different Eagles catching a pass, including five players with at least two catches.

Perhaps most importantly, Hurts didn’t turn the ball over. That’s been a constant for him this season with just three interceptions and no fumbles lost thus far.

“I think we would probably still take Mahomes over him,” Shorr-Parks continued,” but Mahomes is reckless with the ball, for what it’s worth… He can move, he’s not the athlete Jalen is. Josh Allen, same thing, I think Josh Allen we could argue the arm, whatever, but he’s also reckless with the ball.”

Hurts is tied for the fifth-most passing touchdowns this season with 22 and he’s the only starting quarterback to have fewer than four interceptions. He’s behind only Justin Fields (905 yards) and Lamar Jackson (764) with 686 rushing yards, but he leads all quarterbacks with 10 rushing touchdowns.

“He’s kind of the perfect quarterback,” Shorr-Parks said. “He can run. He can win from the pocket. He can make all the throws.”

Hurts has been taking care of the ball and taking care of business as well.

The Eagles clinched a playoff spot on Sunday but still have some work to do to lock up the top seed in the NFC. They travel to Chicago on Sunday before a Christmas Eve showdown in Dallas.
