Nick Sirianni honored to face Andy Reid, but says 'it's never about me'

For the next two weeks, we’re going to be hearing a lot about the coaching matchup in the Super Bowl.

It’s an interesting one, for sure. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spent 14 years coaching the Eagles, taking them to one Super Bowl (which they lost) during his run in Philly. He has since won one title with Kansas City, and now will face second-year head coach Nick Sirianni in Super Bowl LVII.

It’s a coaching legend against a rising star, and Reid’s connection to the Eagles only adds to the intrigue. Reid has attempted to “blank out the hype,” and Sirianni effectively did the same Tuesday in his weekly appearance on “Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team.”

“Really, it’s never about me and it’s never about the coach that we’re playing against, because it’s all about our players and playing in this big game and earning the right to play in the Super Bowl, which is pretty awesome," Sirianni said.

“Am I honored to be coaching against a coach like Coach Reid? Of course," he continued. "He’s one of the best coaches in the NFL and he’s one of the best coaches in NFL history, and I’m honored to be coaching against him a couple of Sundays from now. But I’m really looking forward to getting there and putting in the work these next couple weeks to get ready for this game of leaving no stone unturned and getting ready for the game, just like we’ve gotten ready for the last 19 games.

“Just really looking forward to the challenge ahead. This is the last two weeks we get to work with this team and this staff, right? There are things that change. I love this team and I love these guys so much, I’m going to enjoy every second of the next two weeks and work our butts off so we’re ready mentally, physically for this next game in Arizona.”

Reid and Sirianni have faced each other once since the latter took over in Philadelphia, with the Chiefs beating the Eagles in Week 4 of last season.
