(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans are parting ways with David Culley after one season as head coach.
With Culley out, Houston is now looking for its third head coach in three seasons and their second under general manager Nick Caserio, who was hired in January 2021.
The Texans went 4-13 this past season under Culley. The run included an eight-game losing streak after winning the season-opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Houston started rookie quarterback Davis Mills for six games while veteran Tyrod Taylor dealt with a hamstring injury. Taylor returned to start three more games, but underperformed and was benched, allowing Mills to take the job for the final six games.
The Texans went 2-4 in those games, including back-to-back wins at the Jacksonville Jaguars and an upset at home versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
Yet there was uncertainty about Culley’s future heading into this week, with management not making a public commitment to bringing him back for a second season as other coaches were fired around the league Monday.
Culley met with reporters Monday and said he was operating as if he would be the Texans’ coach in 2022.
