(SportsRadio 610) - Texans rookie quarterback Davis Mills will start for the remainder of the season, head coach David Culley said Friday.
Mills replaces veteran Tyrod Taylor as the starter after ineffectiveness in the past four games since returning from injury.
The Texans (2-10) are 2-4 with Taylor starting and 0-6 with Mills starting. But Taylor's completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 966 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions. While Mills has completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 1,406 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Mills' passer rating is 78.4, while Taylor's is 76.7.
With either quarterback, the Texans boast the league's least efficient offense, ranking last in offensive and defensive DVOA.
This move is more about allowing the younger player, who has not necessarily been outperformed by the veteran, to develop and showcase his potential.
