One of the most iconic logos in the history of American sports will be returning to the field in 2023.

According to Jim Wyatt of Titans.com, the franchise plans to wear their "Oilers" throwback uniforms for a to-be-decided home game in the 2023 season.

The Oilers were based out of Houston from 1960 until the 1997 season, when they relocated to Tennessee. For the franchise's first two seasons in Tennessee, they kept the Oilers nickname, before rebranding to the Titans in 1999. But technically, the Titans -- not the Houston Texans, who began play as an expansion team in 2002 -- own the entire history of the Oilers.

Along those lines, Wyatt suspects that the Titans will wear the Oilers throwback uniforms when they host the division-rival Texans, although nothing is confirmed in that regard.

According to NFL Gridiron Database, the Titans last wore the columbia blue Oilers uniform tops in Week 10 of the 2009 season.

A slew of classic NFL uniforms returned as alternates in 2022, as the controversial "one helmet rule" was eliminated. In 2023, the Oilers throwbacks will evidently return, as will kelly green for the Philadelphia Eagles and orange creamsicle for the Houston Texans.
