The 2022 season might be Tom Brady’s last. If he already knows it will be, he’s not letting anyone know that publicly.

Brady is about to embark on his 23rd NFL season after an offseason that saw him retire and then unretire. Between that, the Miami Dolphins rumors, his agreed upon deal with FOX, departure from a chunk of Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, and reports of his marriage being rocky, it’s fair to wonder if this really will be it for Brady.

And whether he likes it or not, those questions are probably going to follow him much of the season. That includes Thursday, when he was asked if this is it for him.

“I think we’re all getting one day older at a time,” Brady said, via ProFootballTalk. “We’re all not sure whether we’re going to be here next year or not, that’s the reality for every player, every coach, every parent. You just never know. We should all take advantage of the opportunity that we have, which is the one we have in front of us now.”

Brady has become an expert at saying a lot without saying anything, but it’s plausible that even he doesn’t know if this will be his last season. Either way, he has kept messaging about his future consistent since unretiring. He's said that he's year-to-year and knows he doesn't have five more years left in him, but that's about as much detail as he's offered.

Regardless, Brady played at a high level last season, and until he shows signs of slowing down the expectation is he’ll continue to be among the league’s best at the position. Quality play in 2022 will be enough to satisfy the Buccaneers, and they can handle things for the 2023 season when the time comes – at which point Brady will be a free agent.
