Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady made headlines in recent weeks after taking some time away from the team. There were all sorts of conspiracy theories and guesses as to why Brady stepped away, but the quarterback had a relatable explanation.

That explanation came after the Buccaneers’ game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night.

Kailey Mizelle and Kasey Hudson reacted to Brady’s comments live on Audacy’s “Jolly Rogers & Touchdowns” podcast.

“We’re recording this postgame, Tom Brady just stepped up to the microphone, Kasey, and was asked – because of course he was – about why he missed 11 days of training camp,” Mizelle said (4:50 in player above).

By now, most people know what Brady said in response to that question. But just to refresh your memory, here’s his answer.

“Oh my gosh, Tom Brady coming out here with the zingers,” she continued. “‘I’m 45 years old. I have a lot of (stuff) going on.’”

So he may not have been on "The Masked Singer" although some fans believe he may have done something else to his face during his time away.

Nevertheless, this was a continued change of tone for Brady since relocating to Tampa Bay.

“Tom Brady, good for you TB, standing up for yourself,” Mizelle said. “Again, a reason why you love Tampa Tom. You know what I appreciate though? … Brady would’ve never said that in a Patriots uniform under Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick. I’m sorry, but for him to just be like ‘there’s a lot of stuff going on.’ We know that he’s got moving pieces in his life.”

Brady temporarily retired from football earlier this year and commitments made during that time could have played a factor. No matter what the situation was, it’s refreshing to hear a human perspective from the NFL legend.

“He’s got an empire and we don’t know how deep and reliable the staff is, and at the end of the day it falls on shoulders that are human shoulders,” Hudson said. “So for him to say ‘there’s a lot going on,’ bravo to you, Brady, for just being that much more transparent and honest about something rather than just staring down the media and maybe walking away from the presser. Because we’ve seen him walk away from pressers after 27 seconds and that was it.”

“It humanizes him,” Hudson later said. “I think that’s something that people forget that he’s a human… He is a human and he’s allowed to be human and I think we all, as people, need to get better at accepting that.”
