(670 The Score) The White Sox have exercised the $16-million club option on reliever Craig Kimbrel's contract for the 2022 season, the team announced Saturday.

The White Sox acquired Kimbrel from the Cubs in July, but he struggled on the South Side while moving from a closer’s role to a setup role. Kimbrel had a 5.09 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 24 appearances for the White Sox in 2021 after posting a 0.49 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in 39 appearances for the Cubs.
The White Sox are expected to attempt to trade Kimbrel this offseason, Bob Nightengale of USA Today has previously reported.
The White Sox on Saturday also declined the $6-million team option on second baseman Cesar Hernandez’s contract, a move that had been previously reported by ESPN. Hernandez hit just .232 with a .608 OPS in 53 games for Chicago, which acquired him from Cleveland in July.
