Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores had a meaningful wardrobe choice following his team’s hard-fought 24-17 win over the New York Jets on Sunday.

Flores, a Brooklyn native, took the podium sporting an FDNY T-shirt.

The Dolphins head coach said that his uncle is a retired New York firefighter who was “instrumental” to Flores’ life and was the one who introduced him to football.

His uncle belonged to Ladder 118 — one of the first houses to respond to the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 and enter the buildings.

Flores’ uncle was out on sick leave on that day, though. Six firefighters from Ladder 118 did not make it out of the towers.

Playing right across the river in East Rutherford, NJ, Flores felt that it was a fitting day for him to wear the T-shirt to honor his uncle and those first responders who risk their lives each day.
