Drake was able to erase a double-digit deficit to beat Wichita State in the 2021 NCAA Tournament's First Four on Thursday night, but not without some sports betting implications.
After opening +2 on Sunday, Drake moved to -2 at all major sportsbooks upon the news that ShanQuan Hemphill (broken foot) would be active for the game.
Up by four points and less than 20 seconds left, Drake seemed primed to close this game out and get to the window. However, a poor pass and turnover led to a Dexter Dennis three for Wichita State, putting the Shockers inside the number.
After that, Drake's Joseph Yesufu went to the line to get the cover.
Yesufu, an 81% free throw shooter, missed the front end of the one-and-one, and Wichita State missed the game winning shot to give the Bulldogs a 53-52 win.
Drake by one. Depending on when you bet the Bulldogs, it was either a win, push, or loss. March Madness is back indeed.
