Zach Ertz will not have the chance to put together one of the most dominant fantasy football weeks in history.
After playing in the Philadelphia Eagles 28-22 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football, Ertz was traded to the Arizona Cardinals Friday morning. He won't, though, be eligible to play for the Cardinals on Sunday as they put their undefeated record to the test against the Cleveland Browns.
As ESPN's Field Yates reminds us, by rule, players cannot play in two games during the same week, so Ertz won't be able to debut with the Cardinals until they host the Houston Texans in Week 7. Even if Ertz had been eligible to play, his role with the Cardinals likely would have been minimal because he would have had less than three days to learn Kliff Kingsbury's offense and built a rapport with Kyler Murray. There would also be concerns with the safety -- or lack thereof -- with playing in two NFL games in a four-game span, which is perhaps why the rule exists in the first place.
In what turned out to be the final game of his Eagles career, Ertz caught four passes for 29 yards and a touchdown, good for 12.9 points in ESPN standard fantasy leagues. On the season, the three-time Pro Bowler has 18 catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Ertz, who will turn 31 in November, can become a free agent this offseason.
