The podcast conversation flows with no effort, as the two naturally have so much in common. Paltrow began her film career at nineteen with the 90s classic Hook, and Johansson fully broke into the industry with 2003’s Lost in Translation at nineteen years old as well. Both actresses are award nominated, with Paltrow having a Best Actress Oscar and Golden Globe under her belt, and Johansson a Tony and BAFTA. Nowadays, both are CEOs of wellness and health businesses - Paltrow has long been at the front and center of lifestyle brand goop, and Johansson released a clean skincare line in 2022, called The Outset.

And, of course, both have been married multiple times to A-list celebrities. “I forgot you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!” Gwyenth said to a chuckling Scarlett.

She continued, “So what have you learned? Because I’m in my second marriage. My second marriage is very different from my first. I met you when I was in my first marriage” Gwyenth said, citing their careers together in the Iron Man and Avengers series.

“There are certain fundamental things in your own personality that, I needed to share with the other person,” Johansson said. “And I think understanding what those fundamental things are, that you need in a partner, is a must for longevity. Because all the rest of it is hard - there’s gonna be disagreements or ups and downs”

“I don’t think we are taught to really sit down and think about those fundamental qualities, the non-negotiables,” Paltrow continued. Both agreed that the key to long term relationships is ultimately discovering if “you move around the world in the same way.”
