With more advisories, regulations, and work-from-home recommendations being put back in place as coronavirus cases spike, we wanted to provide you with some handy tips for your home that not only help our environment… but also your wallet.
2-Degree Rule
Turn down your thermostat during the winter by 2 degrees / turn up by 2 degrees in the summer to save up to 2,000 lbs of carbon dioxide per year! (This also helps save $$$) And don’t forget to cover or block any drafty windows for even more savings.
Cold Water Loads
Donate, Donate, Donate
Buy second-hand items or donate items including clothing, usable appliances, tools, and other goods instead of tossing them.
‘Water’ you waiting for?
Switch to LEDs
This one’s pretty simple. Use LED light bulbs in lamps, fixtures and holiday lights – these babies can save you about $8 per month, or about $1,000 over a 10-year period!
Ice, Ice, Baby
Running in place
Pull the plug!
Don’t forget to unplug chargers and turn off appliances, including computers, when they’re not in use. This simple act can save 1,000 lbs of carbon dioxide a year and lower your power bill.
Walk it out
Stop the runs
Leaving the water running while brushing your teeth or doing other activities is one of the biggest wastes in the average household. Instead of pouring money down the drain, turn off the water while brushing and just turn it back on when you need to.
Shoppingggg!
Bring a few reusable bags along with you while shopping at the grocery store and beyond. You can reduce unnecessary waste and even save some money in many states which have enacted bag fees at checkout.
