PSPCA Launches Test Drive Foster-to-Adopt Program
Effective Thursday, February 1, the PSPCA will allow interested families to take dogs home for a week to learn if they are in fact ready for a dog. The family can learn in real time how a pup fits into their lifestyle prior to making the adoption official.
As the length of stay for shelter dogs has continued to increase, the organization’s adoption team has been searching for creative ways to help find homes for deserving dogs. Potential adopters have long asked if fostering to adopt is an option, and the answer is now an enthusiastic “yes!” – with some specifications.
Families are eligible to participate if they have access to an email to correspond with the PSPCA staff on a daily basis, are at least 18 years of age, and have an approved application.
Eligible dogs for the test drive program must have a length of stay of at least 30 days, be over 7 months of age, over 30 lbs. and must be altered to leave the property. Test Drive dogs will not be allowed in dog parks, to interact with dogs other than any resident dogs and are not permitted to take part in off-leash activities.
