Jalen Hurts is the best value play at the quarterback position in Fantasy Football this season, according to NFL Network lead fantasy analyst Marcas Grant.
If all of the premiere quarterbacks are off of the board, Grant was asked who he would want this season.
"Jalen Hurts," Grant said on the Upon Further Review with Zac Brook podcast. "He's that guy who has the top five upside. We want quarterbacks who can run with the football, that is the Konami code as the great Rich Hribar coined many years ago. And when he took over as the starter late in the [2020] season, go by those final four weeks, weeks 14 through 17—the only quarterback who had more rushing yards than Jalen Hurts in that time was Lamar Jackson. So we know he can run with the football.
"I think the Eagles are going to throw the ball a lot more this year than people are anticipating, that's also sort of why I love DeVonta Smith once he's healthy and back and ready to go," Grant continued. "Things might go sideways with Jalen Hurts, you never know, but if you want to talk about the guy who has the ability to get to that top five, I think he is the guy."
Hurts enters his second NFL season as the Eagles starting QB, at least for now, as Deshaun Watson trade rumors continue to swirl. ESPN.com ranks Hurts as the No. 10 QB in fantasy.
As Grant discussed, rushing is a key component to fantasy point for quarterbacks, and is becoming increasingly more common every year. Hurts, in just four starts last season as a rookie, rushed for 354 yards and three scores on top of throwing for another 1,061 and six touchdowns.
Now, while the Eagles have a new system and new coaching regime, they're also healthy (for now). So if Hurts continues near his pace from last season, he should be able to accumulate well over 1,000 yards on the ground if he plays a full season.
