Richmond, VA _ Virginia Parole Board chairperson Tonya Chapman has confirmed that a man who spent more than 40 years in prison for the murder of a Richmond Police officer has been released on parole.
Vincent Martin was serving a life sentence for the 1979 killing of Richmond patrolman Michael P. Connors during a traffic stop near VCU.
Martin's parole had twice been delayed amid protests by numerous law enforcement groups, and an investigation by the Office of the State Inspector General that is still ongoing, into the parole board's decision to grant Martin parole. Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney Collette McEachin had also asked the board to rescind its decision.
