Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The two Richmond Police Officers charged with misdemeanor assault following this summer's protests have made their first court appearance. Mark Janowski and Christopher Brown face another appearance in November.
Chief Gerald Smith declined to speak on the appearance during a brief on crime stats on Wednesday. Smith says he doesn't want to taint the jury, and the process needs to play out. Smith also declined to provide any details about the incident the two were allegedly involved in, which occurred on May 31st.
Smith did say the two are on adminstrative leave, and six other officers, who potentially had faced charges, need to go through internal administrative processes before returning to their posts.
