Damage After Saturday Night Protest

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -  Richmond Police declared an unlawful assembly last night, during a protest that caused damage in the city.  Richmond Police say protests set a city dump truck on fire during the protests.  The dump truck had been located near RPD headquarters as a barricade.

Six people were arrested, according to Richmond Police.  They are:

 

·James Kelley, 29, W/M, Richmond - Unlawful Assembly

·Justin Killough, 26, W/M, Richmond – Unlawful Assembly

·Stephen Loughman, 29, W/M, Richmond – Unlawful Assembly – Rioting with a Firearm

·Wendell Lundy, 36, B/M, Hampton – Unlawful Assembly

·Alton Rittenour, 26, W/M, Richmond – Unlawful Assembly

·Justin Thompson, 28, W/M, Hopewell – Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Rioting

 

The Richmond Times Dispatch reports a nearby Chiptole also caught fire.  The unlawful assembly was declared around 11pm.  The RTD says flash devices and chemical agents were used to disperse the crowd.

Word of the protest had been circulating on social media for days.  Chief Gerald Smith said most involved in the protest were white.  Smith claimed both the right wing "Boogaloo Boys" and left wing groups were involved.  Smith thanked  Black Lives Matter groups, saying they were not part of last night's situation.  Mayor Levar Stoney also blamed white supremacists as well.
