3rd Arrest In Bon Air Escape

Chesterfield County, VA _  The Virginia State Police, in partnership with the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force, are still actively pursuing new leads related to the whereabouts of the two men who escaped from the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center early Monday morning (July 13, 2020) in Chesterfield County.  Anyone with information related to either Jabar A. Taylor, 20, of Washington, D.C., and/or Rashad E. Williams, 18, of Spotsylvania County, Va., is encouraged to call 1-877-WANTED-2 (1-877-926-8332) or the Virginia State Police at 804-553-3445. Tips can also be emailed to wanted@usdoj.gov or through the Web and Mobile tips at www.usmarshals.gov/tips. The Marshals are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of each fugitive. At this stage of the investigation, it is still believed both individuals have left the state of Virginia.

During the course of the investigation, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the escape:

On Tuesday (July 14, 2020), the USMS Fugitive Task Force arrested Gerald Thornton, 33, of Philadelphia, Pa., on two counts of aiding with the escape of a juvenile. Thornton, a relative of Williams, was taken into custody without incident. Thornton is being held in Pennsylvania, pending extradition to Chesterfield County.

Also arrested Tuesday (July 14, 2020) was Destiny L. Harris, 23, of Chesterfield County, Va. She was taken into custody without incident by the USMS Fugitive Task Force on two counts of aiding with the escape of a juvenile. Harris, a Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice employee who worked at the Bon Air facility, is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail.  

Wednesday (July 15, 2020) morning the Virginia State Police arrested Darren Briggs, 42, of Lawrenceville, Va., on one felony count of providing a cell phone to a prisoner (Code of VA 18.2-431.1). He was taken into custody without incident. Briggs, a Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice employee who worked at the Bon Air facility, is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail. 

According to the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), Taylor was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and aggravated malicious assault, and Williams convicted of malicious wounding and robbery. Both were committed by courts in the Fredericksburg area, and both are due to transfer to an adult Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) facility upon reaching their 21st birthdays.
