ABC News has come under fire for withholding facts from a story of a Black Lives Matter protester who was killed while demonstrating when a vehicle ran her over on a Seattle highway over the weekend.
The story from ABC News was presented on Twitter as follows: "A young protester has died from injuries she suffered when a luxury car plowed into her and another woman during a Black Lives Matter protest Saturday on a Seattle freeway that has been shut down for days due to the civil unrest, police said."
What ABC failed to report was that the man who ran over 24-year-old Summer Taylor with his "luxury car" on I-5 was Dawit Kelete, a black man.
The story rang eerily similar to a 2017 incident in Charlottesville, when a white nationalist ran his car into a group of protesters, killing Heather Heyer.
And while the news media were quick to report the race of the man driving the car that day, they clearly seem much less enthusiastic about doing that in this instance.
ABC News received major blowback on Twitter for leaving out the man's race, yet adding the detail about the type of car that ran Taylor down:
Kelete was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He was booked in the King County Jail on two charges of vehicular assault. The car he was driving was a Jaguar.
