
A black federal officer was shot and killed in Oakland, California on Friday night as a result of the violent protests across the country in response to the death of George Floyd.
According to ABC7, 53-year-old Patrick Underwood was shot and killed at the Ronald Dellums Federal Building Friday night. Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed his death was directly related to the riots in the city. A second officer was also wounded and is currently in critical condition.
Officials say that Underwood and the other officer were at the Federal Building on Friday night watching over the protests when a vehicle approached them around 10 p.m. Someone inside the vehicle then fired shots at the two officers.
