Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) caught flak for going to get a haircut a week after lecturing residents for not shutting down "non-essential" businesses - including barber shops and salons - during the coronavirus pandemic.

The widely celebrated first openly gay mayor was pressed by the media after getting the haircut last weekend, but declared that because she is the "face of the city," she should be excused from the governor's order to shut down non-essential businesses.

Lightfoot told reporters, "I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye. I’m a person who, I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?"

She also added that "the woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on, so we are, I am practicing what I’m preaching."
