Several House Democrats introduced an amendment to the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package that would extend financial aid to illegal aliens.
Reps. Lou Correa (D-CA), Judy Chu (D-CA), and Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) proposed the Leave No Taxpayer Behind Act, which would amend the cash payment part of the coronavirus stimulus to include those who are not U.S. citizens.
Currently, the CARES Act requires those receiving financial relief to have a Social Security number. Those with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) - which include a large number of illegal immigrants - are not eligible.
