Yes, this actually happened. We still can't believe it either.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom actually praised President Donald Trump on Sunday for his handling of the coronavirus, specifically with the cases aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that was held off the California coast for days.
Newsom also lauded the administration for coming through on its promises concerning the virus on board the ship. saying "every single thing (Trump) said, they followed through on."
The governor informed reporters that he had a private conversation with President Trump, during which the president told him, "We’re gonna do the right thing." He said the president also reassured him, "You have my support, all of our support, logistically and otherwise."
Newsom also offered praise for Vice President Mike Pence, saying, "So I’m just not interested in finding daylight on those statements because every single thing his administration — and it stars at the top, including the vice president — has been consistent with the expectation that we’d repatriate these passengers and we’d do it in a way that does justice to the spirit that defines the best of our country and the state of California."
