After Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) threw a monkey wrench into the Democrats' impeachment sham by declaring Thursday night that he would be voting against calling more witnesses in the Senate trial, the folks on CNN were beside themselves.

Guest John Dean, former White House counsel under Richard Nixon, said of Alexander before the news broke that, "the Lamar Alexander I knew would vote for witnesses."

When the news of Alexander's decision dropped, Dean was crushed, saying "I'm a little surprised. Not totally. But I keep thinking this will be the most significant vote he makes in his career and is one of the last votes he'll make. And I -- obviously he's not standing for reelection. He's standing down. And I think this is kind of a sad endnote for his career."
