Many in the media were not thrilled with the way Ricky Gervais called out the Hollywood elite for their hypocrisy at the Golden Globes last week, which makes it that much greater.
Variety called Gervais' performance as host "lame." USA Today called him "dull." The Los Angeles Times said he was "a jerk" and bashed him for bringing down the mood in a room that was already "sober" because of impeachment, the "threat" of war with Iran and the Australian wildfires. It also criticized him for daring to call out celebrities who are just trying to "use their influence to change things for the better."
In other words, they're still bitter at Gervais for having the gumption to speak for the rest of us and tell the rich and famous that we don't care about their political opinions.
