Dear Media Types: Hypocrisy Much?

John Oliver

HBO "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver claims to be a champion of facts and the truth, but his coverage of the Joe Biden sexual assault allegations would suggest otherwise, as he has devoted a mere 26 seconds to the story in his six shows since the allegations were made public.

However, when Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was accused of sexually assaulting Christine Blasey Ford, Oliver ripped him to shreds, calling him an "entitled monster" and his appointment a "F**k you" to Democrats and women and finally concluding that he was likely guilty.

Nearly six weeks after Tara Reade went public with her allegations against the former vice president, this was all Oliver had to offer:

Look, it's been another grim week with news of the global pandemic broken up only by further developments surrounding Tara Reade, the former Senate aide who's accused Joe Biden of sexual assault. Now, he's denied the claim, but there are clearly big questions still to be answered here.
And Tara Reade obviously deserves to be heard, the way that anyone does when they make the difficult choice to come forward with allegations of this kind, which should, of course, be fully investigated. And I am sure that we will talk more about this as the story unfolds.

Yep, that's it. No outrage, no name-calling, no dragging names through the mud. Basically, "let's just wait and get the facts before we form an opinion." Did Brett Kavanaugh not deserve the same treatment?
