Former Vice President Joe Biden quoted former Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong in a virtual fundraiser with former Obama chief White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.

According to the Washington Examiner, Biden used the quote Monday evening in a digital fundraiser with Jarrett:
"We've got to get real economic relief into women's hands now," Biden said on Monday evening to the 14 wealthy donors who attended the digital fundraising session.
According to the pool reporter who watched the event, Biden then cited the Chinese proverb, "Women hold up half the sky."
The phrase comes from a proclamation by Mao in the mid-20th century that helped grant certain rights to women in China. The phrase became commonplace in China at the time, often appearing on pieces of propaganda in factories or other industrial areas.

This may have been no coincidence, either.

Breitbart News notes that Biden campaign senior adviser Anita Dunn praised Mao in a 2009 speech, when she was the Obama White House communications director. She even called Mao one of her "favorite political philosophers"

Dunn also declared that Mao, along with Mother Theresa, was one of "two people I turn to most."

She later attempted to downplay her love of Mao as a joke, a claim that was met with scrutiny by many, given her praise for a man who became one of the biggest mass murderers in history.
