Ohio's Cuyahoga County has created a hotline for residents to call to report their neighbors for not wearing masks.

Cleveland.com reports that Cuyahoga County - which includes Cleveland, Ohio - has started a hotline for people to call and report their neighbors for violating Gov. Mike DeWine's mask order.

Ironically, one county executive insists they want people to wear masks "voluntarily."

"This is not intended to be going out and finding people not wearing masks," Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish said in an announcement on Friday. "We want people to wear their masks - we want people to do it voluntarily."

Budish added that enforcement of the governor's mask order will rely more on personal complaints from residents than active policing.

"There's not enough people in law enforcement throughout the county to track down people, chase them around and figure out who we can go after for not wearing a mask," he said.

When a complaint is filed, the county will then attempt to contact the violator and inform them that they have been reported. The complaint will then be passed on to the Board of Health and the city or village where the violation took place.

If a business or person becomes a repeat offender, the Sheriff's Department could investigate or file charges.

Violating the governor's mask order is a second-degree misdemeanor and punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $750 fine, says Budish.
