San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott has banned the use of "thin blue line" masks by his officers during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to KTVU-TV, Scott informed his officers of this decisions via an e-mail sent of Friday. Scott claims the design would seem "divisive and disrespectful," despite the fact that he himself calls it "a meaningful expression to honor fallen officers."
Scott issued the order in response to a May 1 housing rights protest in the city's Castro District, When officers arrived to monitor the situation wearing the "thin blue line" masks, retired civil rights lawyer John Crew complained, calling the masks a "political symbol."
