The Atlanta Police Department said on social media Wednesday night that it has seen a significant increase in the number of officers calling out of work following the announcement of charges brought against the former Atlanta police officer who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks last weekend.

"The department is experiencing a higher than usual number of call-outs with the incoming shift," the department tweeted. "We have enough resources to maintain operations and remain able to respond to incidents."

The department was also responding to reports from several outlets that scores of officers were walking off the job, leaving six different APD zones vulnerable.

On Wednesday afternoon, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced that the city would be bringing felony murder charges against ex-officer Garrett Rolfe, who was fired on Saturday following the altercation that led to Brooks' death.

The 27-year-old Rolfe will face 11 charges in all, and prosecutors may seek the death penalty for him if convicted, the New York Post reports.
