The New York Times launched the "1619 Project" in August 2019. The alleged goal of this project was to re-examine the history of slavery in the United States and was timed to begin on the 400th anniversary of the first African slaves being brought to America.
Since its beginning, the project has garnered heavy criticism from liberal historians and scholars as nothing more than a political weapon designed to wage war on the founding of America by reframing it all through the prism of slavery.
