President Donald Trump took to Twitter Wednesday to celebrate two major Republican Congressional victories in special elections in Wisconsin and California.
The president tweeted, "Big Congressional win in California for Mike Garcia, taking back a seat from the Democrats. This is the first time in many years that a California Dem seat has flipped back to a Republican."
Though the race has not been officially called, Mike Garcia appears poised to defeat Democrat candidate Christy Smith in the special election being held for the California seat previously held by Democrat Katie Hill, who resigned in disgrace in October 2019. To the president's point, if the results hold in Garcia's favor, it would mark the first time since 1998 that Republicans flipped a House seat held by Democrats in California.
In Wisconsin, Republican candidate Tom Tiffany beat Democrat Tricia Zunker by 15 points for the seat that had been vacated by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI).
