President Donald Trump announced on Twitter Sunday night that the United States will be designating the left-wing group Antifa as a terrorist organization.
The president made this delcaration following violent protests over the weekend that have ravaged cities across the United States. The president and others have blamed the group for the violence in response to the death of George Floyd.
Attorney General William Barr also released a statement Sunday following the president's announcement, saying, "The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly."
Barr also announced that 56 regional FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces will be used to identify "criminal organizers and instigators" who are encouraging the violence.
