RIchmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - The weather is still warm and the kids just got back in school. The holiday travel season is probably the furthest from your mind. However, AAA Mid Atlantic says if you have plans to travel, it may be advantageous for you to purchase that ticket now, especially if you see it at a low price. AAA spokesman Morgan Dean says don't wait for it go down further, because it may not.

Dean says you can also take some steps to minimize the risk of flight delays or cancellations, or, if they happen, you're more prepared to deal with them. One of the tips that Dean has is look for flights that leave in the morning, allowing extra time throughout the day. This also could allow you to be more flexible for re-booked flights if something happened.

Also, in the name of preparation, Dean suggests getting to the airport two hours early for a domestic flight. That helps you be more flexible and be more prepared for anything that may change. In addition, when planning your itinerary for your trip, schedule longer layovers.

Dean says the key is to change your thinking from pre-pandemic times. The reality is that it's more likely that something is going to go wrong with your flight, so sometimes it's better to adjust your schedule to make yourself more amenable to changes.
