Hanover, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- The ACLU of Virginia is suing Hanover County Public Schools over the district's failure to pass state-mandated transgender policies. Hanover was supposed to have the policies in place to start the school year, but delayed, and then a week after Election Day, declined to approve the policy.
At the time of the November decision, board members said they wanted time to craft a policy that "fit the county." The decision followed public comment predominately against the transgender policy. State law passed in 2020 requires districts at a minimum have policies that allow for bathroom use based on gender identity, and allow use of preferred pronouns.
The case is filed in Hanover Circuit Court. The plaintiffs are all parents of transgender Hanover school students.
