Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Commonwealth Catholic Charities says of the first families to come through Fort Lee from Afghanistan, they have settled five of those families in Richmond. Chief Operation Officer Anita Wallen says they also settled six families in Newport News, and eight families in Roanoke. Wallen says they put families in metro areas to keep them close to resources.

Wallen says Roanoke received more families because the area has a larger Afghan community. She says they are looking for monetary donations to help with resettlement, because money more efficiently can go towards needed goods.
