Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Attorney Jason Miyares (R) has reversed an opinion from his predecessor, former Attorney General Mark Herring (D), opining that colleges cannot mandate the Covid-19 vaccines. Herring had said the universities could mandate them just last April.

Miyares argues that because the Code of Virginia does not specifically mention Covid-19 vaccines, they cannot be required. He says the General Assembly can change the code, but so far, they have not done so. The University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia Tech have all required the vaccines and their boosters.

Attorney General opinions are just opinions and do not carry the weight of law. Miyares gave his opinion after being asked by Governor Glenn Youngkin (R).
