Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Virginia DMV are warning E-Z Pass users not to fall for a scam that attempts to convince victims that they have an overdue balance on their toll account.

The scam comes in the form of a text message, asking you to give up financial information or risk facing a penalty.

In a warning posted earlier this week, VDOT said it would never send texts urging people to disclose financial information.

Recipients of this text are asked not to click any links or give financial information. You can also delete and report the message and/or file a complaint through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
