Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) has announced he, along with 41 other Attorneys General, is suing Facebook and Instagram parent Meta. The Attorneys General allege Meta has made its sites addictive for kids, and is aware of the harm they have on mental health, and has misled the public about those facts.
Miyares also alleges that Meta is aware that kids under the age of 13 are on the sites, and has collected data from them without parental consent. The Republican also says the suit and pursuit of Meta is bipartisan.
In a statement, Meta says it is disappointed a suit was filed, rather than working with the company to develop clear standards. Meta, by the way, has a large data center in eastern Henrico. Miyares actually streamed the press conference on social media, but used a non-Meta site: Twitter, now known as X.
