Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Among those hunkering down in Florida right now is Audacy Richmond employee Skip Sher. Sher is in Orlando with his son, a student in the area. When WRVA spoke to Sher about the situation in Central Florida right now, he said that - while he was receiving frequent tornado and flash flood warnings, the worst he had seen firsthand at that point was persistent, heavy rainfall and some gusting wind.
The brunt of Hurricane Ian's force, according to Sher, won't be arriving in Orlando until this evening. The storm surges won't be an issue in central Florida, but the sheer quantity of rainfall and the chance for high winds are of high concern.
Sher said he hopes to fly back to Virginia on Friday, though it remains uncertain if the airport will reopen by then.
