Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - With cases rising in Europe, and in portions of the Northeast and Midwest, Virginia's Vaccine Coordinator Dr. Danny Avula is expecting cases to rise here. Avula says cases are starting to plateau in Virginia, and a rise is expected in the winter months.
However, Avula says given our vaccination rates, he does not believe this peak will be as high or as bad as last winter, which was our worst peak. He also says it shouldn't reach delta levels either, as the delta variant inspired many people to get vaccinated.
As for recommendations, Avula says get vaccinated if you haven't, and get a booster if you are eligible. He also says masks may not be necessary for small family gatherings, especially if most people are vaccinated. Avula says you should determine the risk. As for large gatherings, Avula recommends wearing a mask.
