Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Delegate Lamont Bagby (D-Henrico) overwhelmingly won Sunday's firehouse primary to become the Democratic candidate to replace State Senator Jennifer McClellan. McClellan was elected to Congress last week. Bagby is likely to win the special election on March 28th as the district is heavily Democrat (Republicans did not even run a candidate in 2019).
Bagby defeated Delegate Dawn Adams (D-Richmond) and activist Alexsis Rodgers. The district includes Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, and Charles City County.
Stephen Imholt of Richmond will be the Republican Candidate. He was also chosen Sunday as well. Bagby held a news conference Monday morning in which he said he will focus on reproductive rights and housing.
