Dinwiddie, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In her final motion before leaving office, former Dinwiddie Commonwealth's Attorney Ann Baskervill filed a motion to try the remaining eight defendants in the Irvo Otieno case jointly. Baskervill left office Tuesday to go to study diplomacy in France.
On Tuesday, charges against two Central State Hospital employees were withdrawn. The remaining employee, as well as seven Henrico Sheriff's deputies, face second degree murder charges in Otieno's death.
In an interview with WRVA, Baskervill says she left the Otieno case in the best possible position. She says it was difficult to leave in the middle of the case. Baskervill does not know who will take it over when proceedings resume in August.
Otieno died at Central State Hospital in March, after being transferred there from the Henrico Jail. He was originally was taken into custody on a mental health call.
