Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - President Biden announced Sunday that he is ending his campaign for re-election.
In a statement on social media, Biden said he believes the move is in "the best interest" of his party and the United States.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” he said in a letter addressed to Americans. “And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus entirely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee in the 2024 race. He extended gratitude to Harris for being an “extraordinary partner” and to the American people "for the faith and trust you have placed on me."
The president said he would formally address the nation later this week to provide more details.
