(Henrico County, Va.) - On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, around 2 pm, Henrico Police was alerted after school officials at Varina High School received an anonymous report of a student having a gun in his car on school property. Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) and the Henrico Police School Resource Officers (SROs) promptly reviewed the information and investigated the alleged tip.
A collaborative investigation between HCPS and the SROs resulted in the quick recovery of a weapon from a student's vehicle on school property. While there is no known threat to any school, these matters are not taken lightly. Police have taken a juvenile male into custody. The juvenile has been transported to the Henrico County Juvenile Detention Home and charged (on petitions) with possession of a firearm on school property and underage possession of a firearm.
