Fredericksburg, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The family of Isaiah Brown, and their attorney, David Haynes, are calling for the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Department to release dispatch audio from Brown's shooting last week. Brown was struck ten times by a deputy. Based on body camera video, it appears the deputy mistook a cordless phone Brown was carrying for a gun.
Haynes says Brown was actually on the phone with 9-1-1 at the time of the shooting. He also says the deputy failed to properly light the scene. Brown is currently in the hospital in what the family is calling "touch and go" condition.
The deputy had actually just dropped Brown off at home prior to the shooting, after his car broke down. The deputy returned after the 9-1-1 call. The body camera video was released Friday.
