Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- With polls having the election too close to call, both Terry McAuliffe and Glenn Youngkin made final stops in central Virginia Monday to try and win the vote. Youngkin appeared at Chesterfield County Airport, while McAuliffe appeared in Richmond at Hardywood Brewery.
Youngkin hit hard on education, promising to ban critical race theory, and promising to keep accelerated math and advanced diplomas. There is some question, based on definition, if CRT is taught in schools, and the Education Department has said accelerated math and advanced diplomas aren't going anywhere. Youngkin also promised to stop the increase in the gas tax, and to do away with the grocery tax, while also giving businesses a year long tax holiday to spur jobs.
McAuliffe's push was heavily on getting people out to vote on Election Day. He also made multiple efforts to try and tie Youngkin to former President Donald Trump. McAuliffe also criticized Youngkin's lack of Virginia government experience, although McAuliffe himself had no Virginia government experience when he first ran for Governor. The Democrat also promised to protect abortion rights, and credited Democrats for investments in education, and with Medicaid expansion.
Both candidates will be spending Election Night in northern Virginia
