Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Centers for Disease Control have added the Covid-19 vaccine to the recommended list of vaccines for children, starting next year. The recommendation does not serve as a federal mandate for the vaccine, a point local health officials have stressed.
UVA Health's Dr. Debbie-Ann Shirley says there are several vaccines on the list that are not mandated for school attendance. Shirley, however, is pleased the Covid vaccine was placed on the list as a reminder of the need for ongoing protection. She spoke during UVA Health's weekly health briefing.
Governor Glenn Youngkin (R), despite it not being a mandate, has posted that Virginia will not adhere to to the CDC Mandate. House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) also says the General Assembly will not mandate the vaccine as long as he is Speaker.
